Which fabric should you choose for your folding curtains?

Why is linen a perfect material for roman blinds? Should your roman blinds be lined or unlined? and should you choose a chain or cord pull?

  • Fine white linen

100% linen in the fine classic weave that characterizes linen. The curtain screens out the dark/light, but you will still have some privacy. If you want a more opaque curtain, we recommend ordering with lining.

  • Coarse white linen

100% Linen here, the classic weave is more pronounced and less uniform than the fine linen. The curtain screens out the dark/light, but you will still have some privacy. If you want a more opaque curtain, we recommend ordering with lining.

  • Unbleached natural linen

The classic weave that characterizes linen is beautifully expressed here in the unbleached linen. The curtain screens out the dark/light, but you will still have a partial view. If you want a more opaque curtain, we recommend ordering with lining.

If you're ordering curtains for the same room several times, please note that linen is a natural material and the shades may vary slightly from fabric roll to fabric roll.

Why is Linen a good choice?

When we chose to make our folding curtains in linen, it's primarily because it's beautiful. For us, there is nothing as beautiful as when the light shines through the fabric and the linen weave stands out.

Linen is a climate-friendly and frugal plant. It needs almost no fertilizers, pesticides or irrigation. More flax is harvested per hectare than cotton and far less water is used in production.

There's no doubt that our seamstresses who sew the curtains find it much easier to work in synthetic or cotton fabrics. But the structure and weaving is never quite right in "fake" linen.

We offer to pre-wash the curtains so you don't have to worry about shrinkage when washing.

Roman blinds with lining

Do you want the curtain to be thin and transparent or do you want to keep out all views? All our folding curtains can be ordered with 2 types of lining: regular or blackout.

Plain lined folding curtain

For those who want a curtain with less translucency. It will also be a curtain that falls more heavily in the folds and has a more refined look.

Ordinary lining provides approx. 50% less light

The picture shows the light penetration of roman blinds with and without the regular lining.

Blackout lined folding curtain

Roman blinds with blackout are perfect for bedrooms where you want to keep out as much light as possible.

We have blackout linings in beige and white. If you choose a blackout blind, the linen structure is heavily dimmed as no light escapes through the fabric.

Blackout lining reduces light penetration by approximately 98%.

Be aware that a tiny bit of light comes through the stitching where the ribbons are sewn on.
